A favorite salad variety with wide, wavy leaves with cut, irregular edges. Inner leaves blanch nicely to a creamy white. While this variety can be blanched and eaten as a salad green, it is often cooked like spinach or is used for flavoring soups, stews and sauces.

SOWING…Plant seed outdoors as soon as soil can be worked. Plant in rows 18 inches apart, spacing seed 1 inch apart in the row. Cover seed with ¼ inch of fine soil, well pressed down. Keep soil moist until seeds start to grow. May be planted as late as mid June.

THINNING…When plants are 3 to 4 inches tall, thin or transplant 10 to 12 inches apart in the row.

GERMINATION…Germinates in 7 to 14 days depending on soil and weather conditions.

REMARKS…Rich in vitamins A and C. Blanch by tying outer leaves together three weeks before harvest.
