Full Sun

Full sun is a location or area of your yard that receives at the least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight.  Direct sunlight exposing plants in the heat of the day.

Part Sun

Part sun is a location that receives 4 hours of good strong sunlight.  Typically during the heat of the day, or in the afternoon.  Part sun plants will give a full bloom in 4 hours of direct sunlight.

Full Shade

Full shade areas are locations in your yard that receives very little if any direct sunlight.  Not a lot of plants push flowers in full shade locations.  Better to use color and textures to create contrasting colors.  Examples would be ferns, hostas, coleus, coral bells.

Part Shade

Part Shade is a location in your yard that gets morning sun only, maybe just a few hours in the very late afternoon.  4 very good hours of morning sunlight can make for very happy flowers.  Hydrangeas, Rhododendrons, Azaleas just to name a few.
